Good Lens with Flaws

If you'll get this lens as a kit, you won't regret it. But if you'll buy it separately, you will regret it. Nothing special on this lens that will amaze you, it is only good for travel, walkaround and for general purpose photography. Just introduced by Canon recently to compete Nikon's 18-200 version. And it's optical performance is similar to Nikon's, that gives you barrel distortion, pincushioning, vignetting and chromatic aberration. Checkout DPreview for what I'm saying. It also zoom creep or gravity zoom whenever you tilt the lens downward or upward when set at the midlle zoom range between 50mm-80mm. You will love and hate his lens. I'm happy with mine since I got it as a kit on my 50D and only cost me $500. With the price of $749.99 when purchase separately, I think it's overprice and hood $70 not included. You can buy a decent sigma 18-200 f3.5-5.6 DC OS HSM lens for only $599 hood included. Or buy the Tamron 18-270 lens, when it comes out, for only $699 with hood supplied as well. Would I recommend this lens to everyone? My answer is Yes, with reservation!
