Bought this lens a few days ago to replace my 70-200 F4L. It's big, heavy and expensive. But it's also the best zoom lens Canon has ever produced. I'm completely happy. It's just as sharp as any prime I have. If you don't absolutely need f/2.8 the F4L IS version is the way to go - it's $1000 less, much lighter, and very similar in sharpness, colour and contrast. But, if you want and need the best this is it. Start lifting those weights and saving those pennies.
