Meant to provide character lighting in portrait photography, the Softlight is superb for a wide variety of uses from product photography of highly reflective surfaces to an excellent light source for architectural or botanical details. Also, a distinctive alternative to ordinary softbox diffusion. Character lighting refers to a source of light that is placed close to the subject. In portrait photography, it is meant to give form and character to the subject's face.
