About:
I’m Benjamin Dickerson, a multi-disciplinary creative professional using a unique combination of creativity and technical skill to tell stories that inspire action. Solution: Campaigns, videos and your brand require a long term focus in the narrative. That narrative or story needs an expression of your values, your beliefs to connect and build trust. Once you build trust with your audience you inspire loyalty. The kind of loyalty and reoccurring participation you're looking for. Storytelling, regardless of the medium is what I love to do. Through my creative direction and technical capabilities, whether in film/video, photography, traditional or digital media I want to tell your story and give your audience enough space to project themselves in. Telling your story: I have worked with several political and not for profit organizations. In their engagements with people around either their cultural contribution or the values they share with their audience, the thing that has been overlooked the most has been their core purpose. Most of their products and campaigns have been modelled around the specifics, in other words, “what” they are doing. When building your engagement from the specifics out, you fail to address their purpose and your purpose. The language and aesthetics of the engagements are derived from methods of manipulation. Products composed to manipulate are designed to influence and profit through short term gains. They are also less effective than work made to inspire. Inspiring participation from your audience, can be as simple as provoking the audience into conversation about your work, giving them enough to identify and relate to in order to encourage analysis, curiosity or speculation. Inspiring this kind of simple participation is most common in our beloved art, film and music. The culture producer communicates a coherent message that is diffused in the audience with enough space to project themselves in. Short term solutions, leave an absence in the values based narrative developed over the needed long term. Poor engineering in solutions are a disservice to the core message. Your values and purpose are the biggest part of your story. They diffuse you, make you easy to identify, like a symbol or a logo. People instantaneously connect to your values and it’s the most effective way to inspire trust with your audience. In order to inspire action in others with the specifics of your “ask,” trust has to exist. “People do not buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” Simon Sinek
