Overview

The Carl Zeiss 80mm f/2 T* Planar lens, with its nearly symmetrical layout, provides the lens designer with numerous means to correct aberrations extraordinarily well-even at wide open apertures. This design is the ideal basis for high-performance lenses with great color correction, high speed, flat image and low distortion. At f/2 the Planar T* 80mm lens is the fastest lens in the Contax 645 system. There is no faster Planar lens in medium format photography available anywhere! Even at full aperture the performance is excellent. The Planar T* 80mm lens is the ideal tool for handheld photography with decent shutter speeds at low light levels, in people photography indoors, celebrity portraits, wedding coverage and similarly demanding tasks.

With its focal length of 80mm, the Planar T* lens records an image with a perspective that is roughly equivalent to the way we see a scene with our eyes, similar to a fast 50mm lens on a 35 mm SLR. Therefore this lens is suited for almost any task in general photography making it a powerful and versatile standard lens in the Contax 645 system.
