PL and E-Mount

PL mount and professional E-mount are provided as standard. BURANO utilizes the same lens mount system as VENICE providing rugged and reliable performance.

The industry-standard PL lens mount is compatible with all Super35 and Full-Frame PL lenses - spherical and anamorphic. The lens mount includes contacts that support Cooke/I Technology and lens information is recorded as metadata, frame by frame. ZEISS eXtended Data is also supported.

E-mount lens metadata is also supported when using Sony E-mount lenses.

Phenomenal Latitude

BURANO’s 8K sensor has an exceptional 16 stops of latitude. The sensor can deliver phenomenal images with very little noise in conditions that range from searing sunlight to almost no light. BURANO also excels at High Dynamic Range imaging, allowing for unprecedented creative freedom in grading.

Dual Base ISO

BURANO features dual base ISO, meaning that the 8K sensor offers Base ISO800 in addition to Base ISO3200. The sensor excels in low-light, High Dynamic Range capture with an exposure latitude from 6 stops over to 10 stops under 18% Middle Gray, for a total of 16 stops. 

Frame Rates

BURANO can shoot up to 30fps at FF 8.6K, 60fps at FF crop 6K, S35 5.8K and 120fps at S35 crop 4K.

BURANO allows the operator to record the highest quality images ranging from HD (1080p) to 8K using video codecs. BURANO supports multiple internal recording formats such as the new XAVC H™ which  utilizes the H.265 high compression efficiency codec, XAVC-I, XAVC-L and X-OCN LT.

Newly introduced, XAVC H is the H.265 HEVC codec that the BURANO supports for recording 8K video files. XAVC H is available in HQ, SQ and Long modes to provide flexibility when shooting.

XAVC Intra and Long codecs are supported when shooting 4K/UHD or HD video.

X-OCN
16-bit eXtended Tonal Range Original Camera Negative

X-OCN LT codec is supported in BURANO. This is the lightest of the X-OCN codecs. It captures incredible imagery while retaining manageable file sizes. It also provides longer record times if desired.

Full 4K, 6K or 8K resolution with extraordinary color reproduction using X-OCN (extended tonal range Original Camera Negative) has reset the standard for high end cinematography workflows. By combining superlative 16-bit precision with surprisingly moderate bit rates, X-OCN opens up powerful new production possibilities. X-OCN produces file sizes much smaller than typical camera RAW, but unlike conventional codecs, X-OCN offers 16-bit scene linear encoding, so you get the ultimate in tonal expression, longer record times, faster file transfers and more economical post-production. In this way, X-OCN is ideal for the most advanced workflows, including ACES, Rec. 2020, SMPTE ST 2084, and the extended color space of Sony’s S-Gamut3 color and High Dynamic Range tone mapping. Far exceeding 10 and 12-bit formats, 16-bit X-OCN records 65,536 tonal gradations per color component, or over 280 trillion individual shades of color. This is the ultimate in grayscale expression, creating an enormous palette for extreme subtleties in grading and far greater flexibility for colorists and editors alike.

Simple and Intuitive Menu Operation

The VF/LCD functions as both a viewfinder with touch focus control and access to control the BURANO menu system.

Pressing the HOME button on the VF/LCD will bring the very familiar VENICE big six (FPS, EI, Shutter, ND, Look & WB). Providing a very well-known interface that operators will quickly learn.

Engineered to Survive

BURANO’s chassis is engineered to be amazingly robust and has been rigorously tested in the harshest conditions as well as main frame structure enabled to design the body to be more durable. Its ventilation system is completely isolated from all electronic components to prevent ingress of dust, sand and splash. The silent-running fan can be cleaned or even swapped out on set quickly and easily.
